Packing has just begun for me before I head back to Uni for my second year. And whilst looking at my clothes I’m starting to panic. What do I take and why don’t I have anything nice to wear?! The best thing to do in this situation is to plan. What outfits are absolutely essential for me to survive this year?

Lectures
In real life it’s important to many that you are nicely presented in public. In Uni life this doesn’t matter so much when you’re waking up for a lecture on the subject of ‘why aren’t I in bed right now?’. In this situation you’re going to need clothing that resembles your bed the most. We’re talking fleeces, jumpers, tracksuit bottoms, winter coats, scarves and bed socks. It may seem a thousand miles away from the attire worn over this summer but trust us, you’ll be thankful.
When you’re not so tired anything is acceptable. Just make sure you’ve got a good pair of shoes on in case you’re late and have to jog a little.

Hangovers
This crosses over with the lecture wardrobe in that this clothing must feel as close as possible to what your bed feels like, that’s if you’re unfortunate enough to have to get up on a hangover. For the bottom half leggings and tracksuit bottoms are acceptable.
Acceptable shoes would be trainers, pumps or even slippers– something that’s not too mind boggling to get on (if you really struggle on a hangover you might want to get a pair of crocs, there we said it.)

Nights out
Boys always seem to be covered when it comes to night out essentials; nice top, pair of jeans, look at your hair and you’re done. For girls this is a nightmare, and can sometimes result in the absolute refusal of going out at all.
For nights out we would recommend getting statement pieces; a jazzy pair of trousers, some LBDs, a couple of bright coloured tops and a few pairs of shoes you may have spent a little too much on. Couple this with some nice jewellery and you’re on to a winner.
Formal occasions
Although not often, there will be times at uni where you’ll need to dress smartly. Interviews, presentations and award ceremonies will require some smart dresses or suit type trousers and blouses for girls/ shirts for boys. It’s also likely that you may attend some sort of ball during your time at uni, so dig out your prom dress/ suit and take it with you just incase.

Things you won’t need
Swim wear – unless you swim frequently.
Hiking boots – unless you hike, frequently (or just like resembling Bear Grylls).
Sandals – it’s nice to be optimistic, but no.
