“There are not enough good pop bands and I’m sick to death of it” – Matty Healy, The 1975."
After months and months of speculation and teasing fans with new music; The 1975 have finally released a new track, titled ‘Love Me’. Bringing the 80s back with their new aesthetic and funky sound, this track is the first taste of the upcoming album ‘I Like It When You Sleep, For you Are So Beautiful, Yet So Unaware Of It’ (Yep), and the record is apparently 17 tracks long (Yep).
In June 2015, their social media accounts dropped off the face of the earth sparking fans to believe that they were gone for good. Thankfully, they were only gone for 24 hours, re-emerging with a pink colour scheme. Well, consider the new chapter officially opened because ‘Love me’ ushers in a new era for the band with a totally different sound. It’s definitely more pop than their 2013 self-titled debut and it’s also built upon funky guitars and 80s-tinged beat.
The new track ‘Love Me’ was premiered on Annie Mac’s show on Radio1, before dropping the hugely influenced by 80s pop track, lead singer Matty Healy said “we wanted to be like more bands that we’ve loved before, where they re-invent themselves but they make it feel like a natural evolution”. The 80s was a decade in which it was ok to be really experimental within pop music and still be fully accepted and embraced as a pop star, which makes the anticipation of their second album release some time during February 2015 even more exciting.
