Takeaway Top Trumps

Chinese

Value for money: 7/10

Quantities: 8/10

Leftover Potential: 7/10

Satisfies hunger: 6/10

Variety: 8/10

Total: 8/10

One of the big two in my eyes along with an Indian, a Chinese is sure to deliver a lot of food for not much money. Ideal if you’re dining with a few others as variety is abundant (unless you’re a Smithy who doesn’t share their dish…). Chinese food sometimes has the potential to make you very full for a short amount of time but luckily there’s usually enough to feast on once you’re hungry again. A solid 8/10 takeaway choice.

In the age old battle of what takeaway to get, who comes up trumps? Well fear not as here at SpiltMilk we have done some serious analysing to provide you with the ultimate guide as to what takeaway to get.

Pizza

Value for money: 5/10

Quantities: 6/10

Leftover Potential: 5/10

Satisfies hunger: 7/10

Variety: 2/10

Total: 6/10

Ah the pizza, somewhat a bittersweet takeaway. There are times where all that can satisfy your cravings is a juicy, cheesy, doughy pizza. However sometimes you don’t know where you stand. Dominoes for example is always tasty, but is a bit of a rip off. Independent pizza places are often cheaper but somehow aren’t the same. There is little variety with a pizza unless you order sides but sometimes this is a good thing when you have a fussy crowd to please. It therefore scores a respectable 6.10

Sushi

Value for money: 5/10

Quantities: 6/10

Leftover potential: 4/10

Satisfies hunger: 5/10

Variety: 7/10

Total: 5/10

Sushi is a newbie in the takeaway world. The more upmarket option, it delivers taste, variety and convenience without making you feel like a beached whale. However it is pricy compared to its contenders and doesn’t deliver the same greasy goodness. For now sushi has some work to do in the takeaway stakes so scores a 5 out of 10.

Indian

Value for money: 7/10

Quantities: 8/10

Leftover potential: 7/10

Satisfies hunger: 9/10

Variety: 8/10

Total: 9/10

The second of the big two, in my eyes Indian comes up trumps. It has the fatty, comforting element of a takeaway without feeling quite as crap for you as a Chinese. An Indian offers the taste that sometimes a Chinese doesn’t, gives you plenty of little extras and some leftovers. Plus naan bread- need I say more, 9 out of 10.

Kebab

Value for money: 8/10

Quantities: 8/10

Leftover Potential: 4/10

Satisfies hunger: 7/10

Variety: 2/10

Total: 7/10

Getting a kebab is like coming back to an old friend. You know where you stand, there’s no pretence, it is what it is. A load of unidentifiable meat in a pitta bread with lots of sauce and ‘salad’. Little variety but excellent value for money and fills you up. Again perhaps better as a night out staple but for a quick dinner, a kebab is a saviour (even if your mates might judge you).

KFC/Chicken

Value for money: 6/10

Quantities: 6/10

Leftover potential: 4/10

Satisfies hunger: 5/10

Variety: 4/10

Total: 5/10

Like pizza, chicken varies on where you buy. KFC is super tasty but pretty expensive. Independent chicken places can be hit and miss and you don’t want to end up with food poisoning. Variety is week and quantities vary. For me, chicken is a takeaway best left to 3am snacking binges so scores a 5 out of ten.
