DC are back, with The Suicide Squad; killer personalities with killer style. The movie is a new take on their most successful franchise, the caped crusader, Batman.

 

The squad consists of a motley crew of criminals and mercenaries, headed up by key antagonist The Joker (played here by Jared Leto). To me the casting is particularly interesting, pulling in fresh faced actors and Hollywood icons alike. Newcomers Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney you’ll recognise from The Wolf of Wall Street and the recent Terminator: Genisys. Alongside them is model Cara Delevigne and the walking box office that is Will Smith. With such a high profile cast, the question lingering upon everyone’s lips is, what’s this film all about?! Well children, let this self-confessed comic book nerd fill you in.

 

Funnily enough, Suicide Squad follows this group of criminals, as they are utilised by the government for highly-classified-deniable-black-ops-operations (try saying that five times fast!) in exchange for reduced sentences. As far as this film’s plot goes, the rest is totally under-wraps… But if the comics and animated films are anything to go by there’ll be explosions and gunfights and the general superhero formula flipped on it’s head! For those of you who have already seen the trailer, this comes as no spoiler, and to those who haven’t, please do!

 

Personally, I can’t wait to see if Jared Leto can take up the cowl (no bat-pun intended) of one of the DC universes most well-known characters… I have my doubts as I’m not a huge fan of his, but I’m open minded! What I’m certain of, is that on the 5th of August 2016, cinema’s up and down the land will be packed to the rafters, great for everyone sat munching popcorn and over-priced-pepsi, less so for us poor souls stood behind the till!
