So, you've been in uni for some time now, you've made some friends and you figure that it's time to throw a house party. The only thing is, you don't want your first house party to bomb. No one wants to go to a shoddy house party, and you certainly don't wanna be the person to throw that disaster of a shindig.

To help you organise a perfectly decent house party we've put together a few guidlines to make sure everything goes according to plan and you have a truly awesome time...

Invitations

When inviting people to your house party there’s a few things you need to consider. Firstly, Inviting people over Facebook is probably the easiest and safest way which allows you to keep it within your friend group. Just make sure that you make it a private group so just your mates see it, unless you’re a massive fan of the film Project X. You could always go the old fashioned route and ask them in person; this takes more time getting inviting everyone but works just as well believe it or not.

Finally, don’t invite people you don’t like. It’s an obvious one but surprisingly difficult to avoid. For example, one of your friends might have that one friend whom you might not like and you may feel obliged to invite them. Don’t. You probably don’t like them for a reason and that asshole will probably ruin your night.

Food & Drink

If you want to be the ultimate host then why not buy a few drinks for your guests. Don’t go crazy and spend your hard earned cash. You can simply buy a couple of bottles of super cheap wine or cheap bottles of lager? We all remember those days we began drinking Strongbow from those massive plastic bottles down the park. Let everyone relive some of those great days. Your poor friends will appreciate it and everyone has a great night.

Snacks. Often forgotten by hosts under the age of 40 but can be so vitally important to the perfect party. An assortment of crisps. Skittles. Nuts. Whatever satisfies those drunken cravings.

Venue

If you’re throwing a house party then you’re more than likely going to have it in your own house. So, first thing's first. You’ll need to party proof your home.

Make sure all your precious valuables are kept shut away in a room which no one has access to, except yourself. Locking up certain rooms also helps your party-goers navigate between the party area and bathroom.

If you’ve got the garden space use it. You’ll have less cleaning up to do inside and there’s always one guest that has too much fun and decides that lovely hedge out back needs to see the inside of their stomach. Nobody wants to see that.

Music

Choosing what to play at your party is a tough one. You want to find the right balance so that everyone can enjoy it. Don’t give guests the opportunity to grab the phone and try and show you ‘the song they cannot stop listening to lately’ by a band no one has ever heard of. Put a bit of everything on there so that everyone is happy.

Games

Games are a good way to get everyone together and chatting. Creating a fun atmosphere is key. Always have a spare pack of cards lying around. Most of the iconic student drinking games involve a pack of cards. If you’re stuck for ideas, Google it. There’s tons of games out there and they’ll be sure to get the party started.

BRING ON THE RING OF FIRE.

Cups

Finally.. cups, get lots of cups. People always forget cups. There’s nothing worse than arriving at a party and not having anything to drink out of. ‘Oh, so I was supposed to bring my own cup? Cool.’

Hopefully this article has shed some light on how to throw a house party you can be proud of. The next step is to get out there and start organising.

Enjoy..
