Freshers’ flu is inevitable. Unless you can actually avoid any human contact, you are going to end your first week at uni with a dripping nose and stuffy head. No, being in second year will not protect you. That being said, there are some simple ways to minimise your suffering. I present to you:
Five top tips for surviving Fresher’s flu and avoiding horrible hangovers
1) Healthy Eating
Making sure you eat regularly and relatively healthily can make a huge difference to how you feel – always make time to eat before heading on a night out, and stock up of fruit and veg. Boosting your vitamin C levels can reduce the amount of time it takes you to get over a cold, and make the sniffling less severe.

2) Drink Water!
Staying hydrated is super important – keep a water bottle in your bag, and leave a glass by your bed when you come in from a night out.

3) Destress!
The start of term can be a pretty stressful time, especially for those just starting uni. Moving into new accommodation, leaving your family, meeting new people, starting a degree – it can all be a bit too much, and might leave you feeling run down. Take some time to relax and look after you – watch your favourite film, call your mum, go for a walk, whatever works.

4) Don’t overdo the booze!
The number one way to avoid a hangover is obviously not to drink, but if that’s out of the question for you during freshers’ week, maybe considering having a few chilled nights in, or going to a non-alcohol-orientated event – think comedy nights or going out for a meal.

5) Get plenty of sleep!
A big part of a hangover is tiredness, so making sure you get enough rest is crucial. Maybe consider an early night once in a while?
