Featured Artist: Yellow Days

Slacker rock and soulful voices have had a bit of a revival in recent years; artists such as King Krule and Cosmo Pyke are forging a space in the teen music scene for their distinctive voices and slowed down sound. Rapidly rising to the forefront is another young British artist with a timeless sound; 18-year-old George van den Broek, also known as Yellow Days.

His 2016 ‘Harmless Melodies EP’ effortlessly demonstrated his creativity and abilities, utilising everything from John Cleese samples to the waviest guitar sounds in music right now to paint us a picture of a 17-year-old out of love. His deep expressive voice complimented with the atmospheric tracks captured the imagination of many fans on the internet, and now Yellow Days is back with an evolved sound.

Since the release of his debut EP, George has given us two new tracks in 2017; ‘Go Home’ is a suitably chilled out guitar backing and soft beat, where Yellow Days lets his voice wander over the track, meditating on a decision. His most recent song, ‘That Easy’ is a little more upbeat, and demonstrates his blues influence. It is earnest and honest, and full of feeling; clearly whoever broke his heart and inspired his debut EP isn’t going to get him down any longer. George has said ‘That Easy’ shows “I'm not going to give up and [I’m] going to give it everything I have basically.”

The two tracks are leading up to his next project; ‘Everything OK In Your World?’, set for release via Good Years later this year. Yellow Days will be going on a tour of the UK in October to promote it, and if you get the chance, I’d recommend checking him out live; anyone who sings with that much soul will be an incredible experience to see on stage.
