Half Moon Run have been on the scene for nearly four years since the release of their debut album ‘Dark Eyes’ in March 2012. As well as wowing crowds with their intimate shows around the globe, the Montreal quartet have steadily been working on their forthcoming record ‘Sun Leads Me On’.
Their latest single ‘Trust’ has given us a sense of what to expect from the group. Not in the sense that we should expect more of the Tame Impala like psychedelic synth sounds throughout the record, but we can expect a change of style and a step forward for the band as they experiment with new effects. Band member Dylan Phillips described the latest single as a ‘departure from what you might normally expect from Half Moon Run’ and that it was ‘put together with a lot of fragmented ideas and chaotic energy’.
The band aren’t strangers to producing tracks which focus on disconcerted relationships, which usually refer to a friend, or lover. In ‘Trust’ Devon (lead singer) leads the chorus with the line of ‘There’s something in the way she’s getting fucked up again’. Now, if you compare this to the popular track from their first record, ‘Call Me In The Afternoon’, the song is similarly based around the troubles of what I believe is a female counterpart with a line like ‘Take one if you need it but you really shouldn't get this fucked up’.
So, as Half Moon run prepare for their autumn tour around Europe and the release of their new record on October 23rd. Fans of the band will be overjoyed as well as restless as they await the new material. Personally, I think it’ll be well worth the wait and whoever hasn’t checked out the new single ‘Trust’, should do so right away.
