The first 40 seconds of the red band trailer for Marvel’s 2016 Deadpool are pretty standard as superhero movie trailers go. We’re introduced to Wade Wilson, terminally ill with cancer, offered the chance to gain superpowers to do good in the world, sound kind of familiar? But before you cry out to yourself ‘oh great, another one of THOSE films’, hear me out… And watch this trailer. Shit’s about to get crazy up in here.

Deadpool Gon' Give it to ya

The first sign that this is quite unlike anything Marvel has attempted is seen in Wade’s wish that his super-suit isn’t green, or animated. The astute among you will see this as a jibe at 2011’s Green Lantern, and that awful awful outfit. This pretty much sets the tone for this ridiculous film, with a banging hip-hop soundtrack (courtesy of Salt-N-Pepa and DMX), as well as the frantic pace of head-busting-car-crashing-goodness. Deadpool is widely known in the Marvel universe as the ‘Merc with the Mouth’, shown in his razor-sharp wit and often childish comebacks. My personal favourite being the line about wearing brown pants (never gets old, and I’ve watched this trailer a few times a day since it went online!).

Deadpool is obviously going to be a big, loud, sweary, sexy affair, packed with the good old ultra-violence. Unfortunately this means any of you kids under 18 might miss out. But alas, us grown-ups have to have fun somewhere, right?! So if you’re as excited as me (although not as much as Deadpool is) at the prospect of multiple fatalities from single shots by the titular hero, then you can’t wait for February 2016 to come around either. And however hard Deadpool is to look at, I’ll certainly have this trailer on repeat and shall be revisiting the comics very soon!
