The power of social media has taken popular twitter page @VeryBritishProblems to new heights, as Channel 4 have commissioned a 3 part series based on the account. Having already released a book: ‘Very British Problems: Making Life Awkward for Ourselves, One Rainy Day at a Time’ the title itself is only a small indication of the hilarity which ensues ridiculing the sheer awkwardness of being a stereotypical Brit.
From life in the office to the perilous adventures of public transport, the twitter feed created by freelance journalist Robert Temple mocks everyday British life in a funny, endearing manner that will have you spitting out your tea in laughter.
Very British Problems is scheduled to air this thursday, with production company Alaska promising "a warm, inclusive, funny show that gently unravels the complexities and awkwardness of the British psyche". With a celebrity cast of Jonathan Ross, James Corden, Steven Mangan, Ruth Jones and Jonny Vegas the hour long episodes take a look into the real lives of these comedic stars to document and unravel the wonderful weirdness of British culture.
I have high hopes that the hilariously relatable tweets will translate to an even more hilarious visual of some of Britain’s best-loved comedians talking about the daily struggle of being an over-polite, weather-obsessed, brew-loving British citizen in an intimate documentary style. Bravo Channel 4. If you know what it’s like to not be able to end a conversation without saying ‘anyway’, make sure to tune on August the 13th.
If you haven’t checked out the twitter feed already, here’s a few of my personal favourites…
