5 Acts You Have To See @ Greenman 2017

James Clarke | 14th August 2017

Green Man festival returns to the Brecon Beacons for its 15th year this weekend. Now recognised as one of the UK’s best alternative festivals, the line-up continues to impress with another wonderful array of music, poetry, comedy and film 2017.

Here are the 5 acts you can’t miss.

PJ Harvey – Mountain Stage, Sunday

The UK singer-songwriter extraordinaire will take to the main stage for her first appearance at the festival; this one is a must see. From her noisy roots, Polly Jean Harvey has constantly evolved, looking to push rock to its limits. She’ll be performing off the back of 2016’s Grammy nominated ‘The Hope Six Demolition Project’, but expect a setlist packed with songs from her whole back catalogue, including old favourites ‘To Bring You My Love’ and ’50 ft Queenie’. Be there, it’s sure to be a highlight.

Kate Tempest - Far Out, Friday

Tempest’s rise to fame has been nothing but extraordinary. The spoken-word artist and poet has gone from relatively unknown to having two Mercury Prize nominated albums and claiming big slots at festivals across the UK. Coming off the back of a widely acclaimed set at Glastonbury, her stark style of social commentary will be more than welcome on Friday evening. Warning: tears may flow.

Sleaford Mods – Far Out, Sunday

Keeping with the spoken-word theme; angry electro-punk duo and kings of twitter bickering Sleaford Mods. Jason Williamson’s lyrics may not be as, err, poetic as Kate Tempest’s, but he channels the same rage and fury at today’s political landscape with a comic twist. 2014’s ‘Divide and Exit’ and this year’s ‘English Tapas’ showcase their colloquial word-play at its best. This one should be fun.

Lift To Experience – Mountain Stage, Friday

One of the more unique performances of the weekend; the cult heroes will bring their ever-mysterious post-rock to the Mountain Stage on Friday evening. We can’t wait to hear those earth-shattering tones wash over the beacons. Expect a good showing of songs from their acclaimed and only album, ‘The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads’ and a life-affirming experience.

Melt Yourself Down – Walled Garden, Saturday

Finally, some jazz-funk fusion for your Saturday night. London’s Melt Yourself Down have never failed to impress live, bringing powerful and wholesome performances everywhere they go. The mind-boggling rhythms on 2016’s ‘ Last Evenings on Earth’ will definitely get your feet moving, you probably won’t have more fun all weekend.
