3 Great Eateries for Students
James Houghton | 22nd July 2015

For many of us students, the summer is spent waiting for that magical, wonderful time of the year when, for a few weeks at least, it all almost seems worth it. All the late nights in the library, 69.99% essays, dodgy landlords and 7p own-brand noodles.
Graduation? No. I’m obviously talking about loan day.
The question is, what to spend it on? You could blow it all in one night and live on packet soup for the rest of term, or you could pop in to one of these great eateries that won’t cost the Earth and might actually leave you with some money for milk. Fill your boots and spare your wallets!
1. Scream Pubs
Scream Pubs are entirely student-orientated, making them a great place to hang out, grab some food and maybe a drink (or three!). Being a chain aimed at students, Scream Pubs offer a great selection of food, including the student staple; burgers. These are some serious contenders, with the eponymous Scream Burger being one of the best. Alongside the standard student fare they also offer specialities like chimichangas. Menus may vary slightly by region, but the outcome is the same; full belly and happy wallet. As they’re student-themed, you'll be at home with the décor and music, plus they offer a discount loyalty card for just £1.
2. Wagamama
For the more adventurous types out there, Wagamama is a fantastic Japanese-style, ramen bar-inspired restaurant chain specialising in pan-Asian cuisine that won’t break the bank. Although not as readily available as gastropubs and cafes, Wagamama can usually be found in city centres and offers authentic Asian food as well as a great selection of drinks including Asian beers and sake. From ramen bowls to rice dishes, teppen to kare, salads to desserts, if you fancy a taste of Japan, from menus that are updated seasonally, without spending a fortune then Wagamama is for you.
3. JD Wetherspoons
This might seem a bit obvious, but bear with me. Wherever you are when you go away to uni, chances are there’ll be Wetherspoons or two of some description, usually around the town/city centre and never too far from uni. Not only are they convenient, they also offer a great selection of no-frills pub grub during the day including burgers, hotdogs and traditional English favourites. Cheap, cheerful and close with the added benefit of a cheeky between-lecture pint. Music may vary by venue and the décor may be standard, but you can’t knock the quality for a quick and easy pub lunch.
Finally, don’t neglect your very own Student Union! SUs cater specifically for the students on campus and offer the food and fare for the price you’d expect, not to mention great deals and events. The atmosphere is great and for many, walking into your SU for the first time is when you really feel like a student, so don’t neglect it!
