Memorable Ads From the Noughties
Jessica Makin | 9th September 2015
It's hard to believe that the noughties ended five years ago! It's even harder imagining what life was like before smartphones and hashtagging. We wanted to take a trip down memory lane and relive some of the adverts that were on our TVs whilst we were growing up.
From watching these you can see that to make a good Ad it's got to be memorable, funny, and the soundtrack has to be spot on. Enjoy!
1. Esure Car Insurance Ad
Watching this video back makes me feel a little ill, but the late Michael Winner definitely left an impression on the nation with this advert and that famous one liner (I'm not even going to say it).
2. Cadbury Gorilla Advert
Next up is this iconic Cadbury's ad which couldn't be further away from what it's trying to sell. Unbelievably this was aired all the way back in 2007 and it caused Phil Collins' 1981 hit to enter the download chart at number 9.
3. Where's Your Head At for CBBC
This is a personal favourite of mine. My eight year old self remembers watching this in my local cinema and being amazed - it was so cool! Skip to about 1:50 to see it, unless you want to watch some classic BBC One fill!
4. Churchill the Talking Dog
I'm sure this one doesn't need reminding as Churchill, and his catchphrase, was engrained into everyone's heads at the time. This classic dog has been around for about 20 years now and even has his own Youtube channel.
5. The Bum Advert
In 2003 Renault used the idea that 'sex sells' to create a fun and friendly identity for their new car. Even though it's basically 50 seconds of shaking bums infront of the camera, it interacts with the person watching it, and probably had a lot of people dancing infront of their TVs.
6. Sony's Bouncy Balls Advert
This chaotic yet lovely advert for their new television will always be remembered in my head as a piece of art more than anything. There's something so beautiful about this ad, which was released in 2005. It's supposed to say how the colour shown on Sony's new TV will be 'like no other', but I think this ad says a lot more than that.
7. PG Tips with 'Munkeh' and Johnny Vegas
This duo did many others, but it's this ad of theirs that stays in my head. It's a retake on Morecombe & Wise's dance to the song and was aired in 2008.
8. The T-Mobile Dance
This is probably one of the best ads of the noughties. I love how a normal public space suddenly turns into a stage for the whole station. Quite a few classics are thrown into the soundtrack too - brilliant!
